Mount St. Helens Eruptions

Abstract
I will examine the volcano eruption that struck in May 1980 of the Washington State, Mt St Helen. I will try to show the disruption that was caused by the volcano eruption on the economy and civilization. What trigger the massive eruption of Mount St. Helens violent rage. For my final report I will present the livelihood of the neighboring people and what aid was brought to the community.

Mount St Helen eruption was trigger from a 5.0 + earthquake beneath the surface releasing a massive volcano eruption. The eruption sending a large plume of ashes miles into the atmosphere causing traces of debris from Washington State all along the West Costal area. I recall the day when Mt. St Helen erupted, the ashes covered the sky of Los Angeles and it call for schools to be cancel, because of bad health hazards. The eruption of Mount St. Helen disrupted air visibility causing flights to be cancel and rerouted.
“Ash clouds from Mount St. Helens move over Ephrata airport in Washington on Monday, May 19, 1980. Communities across central and eastern Washington were covered in 3-5 inches of gritty, fine, ash particles. (Taylor 2015).
Ecological damage that was caused with rivers over-flooding and ranches begin destroyed. The 1980 eruption melt snow caps bring timber down into the civilizes area. Mt. St. Helen erupted twice in the 1980 each time sending miles of smoking ashes into the sky. “On March 27, after hundreds of additional earthquakes, the volcano produced its first eruption in over 100 years.” (USGS Mount St. Helens 1980). Mount St. Helen caused avalanches and mudslides along the mountainous area. This slow down the western ranges changing the face of supplies and delivery of agriculture. “Ash from Mount St. Helens has fallen over a diverse agricultural area, with deposits of up to 30 kilograms per square meter. Crop losses in eastern Washington are estimated at about $100 million in 1980-about 7 percent of the normal crop value in the affected area and less than was expected initially.” (Cook, Barron, Papendick, Williams 1981). The development of timber was the salvage plants is the most devastated by the eruption and agriculture wasn’t that badly damaged. The nontoxic of the ash wasn’t affected toward the animal livestock. The “long-term losses to the Columbia River fishery as a result of the eruptions are not know, but is believed that such losses will be small.”  (Burket, Burlow, Golding, Grant, Lipovsky, Lope, 1980).

Fukushima Disaster of Japan
February 22, 2018

Abstract
I will examine the disaster of the tsunami that hit Japan in March 11, 2011 from a major earthquake that registered at a 9.0 magnitude on the coastal region. That earthquake affected the coastal preservation of the Tokyo Electric Power Plant a Nuclear Industry of Fukushima Dailchi. The precaution the Japanese government did into protecting and to save livelihood of the community with its levels of radiation which call for the evacuation of over a 100,000 people. We will also take a look at the development of what it might cost for rebuilding and clean-up operation.

What had transpired on March 11, 2011 was an epic disaster for Japan and its people. The magnitude 9.0 earthquake devastated the coastal area just about 2:46 pm. The region development was swept with a powerful backlash from the seafloor quake causing a 560sq km tsunami. “The earthquake was centred 130 km offshore the city of Sendai in Miyagi prefecture on the eastern cost of Honshu Island (the main part of Japan), and was a rare and complex double quake giving a severe duration of about 3 minutes.” (Fukushima Accident October 2017).
Image result for FukushimaThe death toll stands at about 19,000 people and over million building destroyed. (Fukushima Accident October 2017).  One main destruction that endanger the inhabitant was the Electric Power Plant that utilizes nuclear fuel at the Fukushima Dailchi. The area of Fukushima institutes instilled 11 Nuclear reactors which 4 played in a critical role in why the evacuations need to be done of over 100,000 people. The plant core rods need water to keep them cool; but in reactor four, the ventilation wasn’t working causing drying out of the ponds. The complication of the tsunami mixing salt water with fresh water wasn’t the major concern of the rods over heating, but it still left Tepco Corporation very concern. In the course of Reactor 1 – 3 nuclear core failing the Japanese government implement a level 7 emergency warning which is as high as Chernobyl accident in Russia in 1986, which “the resulting steam explosion and fires released at least 5% of the radioactive reactor core into the atmosphere and downwind.” (World Nuclear News (updated November 2016)). With radioactive ions particles in the air evacuation precautions was issue and planning phases. Sections of the city where moved 20 km away from the nuclear site and the employee of Fukushima Dailchi was not permitted to stay at the living quarter. “Tepco sprayed a dust-suppressing polymer resin around the plant to ensure that fallout for Mid-March was not mobilized by wind or rain.” (Fukushima Accident. Updated November 2017). The government housed many of the evacuee in gymnasium rooms where the safety of the people was deplorable. “Tepco had checked the radiation exposure of 19,594 people who had worked on the site since 11 March.” (Fukushima Accident 2017). Many of the workers was checked positive of iodine-131 fumes. There were 81,000 evacuees able to return to some of the areas and many of them with server stress which was more important than the radiological hazards. “There were also 267,000 tsunami survivor refugees remaining displaced in February 2014.” (Fukushima Accident 2017). The government consider purchasing the land that is severally contaminated with radiation and people that need more time to decontaminate their property the move-back will continue to be housed. The government did all that they could to overcome the natural disaster of the earthquake that struck Japan in 2011 and for the most case Tepco reported that no one dies from radiation poisoning because of the evacuation procedure but the great force of the tsunami did take a lot of the coastal life of Japan. Shipping had to be re-establish and overseas shipping orders had to be put on hold until the docks was redeveloped. For Fukushima scientist came over from the United States to help with re-establishing the safety of the nuclear power plant. The radiation contamination in the water was lead to be absorbed; some escape out into the ocean and reactor 1-4 was stabilized. Because of this event that took place it’s unlikely that we should see an event like this for some time again.

The Effect of Haiti Earthquake
During the earthquake of January 12th, 2010 that hit the inhabitants of Haiti, just off the Port of Prince it measured at and 7.0 magnitude on the Richter scale. The earthquake devastated the island southeast of Florida, “It was estimated that 220,000 [people] died, more than 300,000 were wounded and more than half a million lost their homes.” (Lichtenberger M.D., et al 2010).
The Natives of Haiti’s were more devastated with the prolonging for help and the medical needs. The aid came with slow results by the Israel Defenses Forces (IDF) and the University of Miami Hospital in Haiti. (UMHH). The slow result were due to unfamiliar with the region. The area of Haiti’s is by far the less developed regional of island civilization of the tropical. Home dwellings were made up of cement wall that was not design to with stand earthquake are with a structural code standard. When the earthquake hit in the late night more people were in there beds sleep. “The house came crashing down on me. When I was knocked off my feet, I was with my child. When I looked for my other daughter, who was pregnant, I didn’t know what was going on.” (Schuller. 2011). This was the common scenario that happen in Haiti. People just lost contact with family relatives and confusion amongst everyone.
Nevertheless medical provision was set up to treat the wounded with UMHH and IDF that housed much needed beds facility. In the event of catastrophic happening the safety of the population was becoming questionable. Violent rapes began to happen and local police knew that the inmates of the prisons had escaped to the refugee camps. These camps was not protected and just made up of make shift canopy tents.
“The statistic of rape and violence against women have become alarming, a result of this close proximity, a lack of privacy, and ineffective response. Women’s organization KOFAVIV (Commission of Women Victims for Victims) reported 230 incidences of rape in 15 camps. Medecins Sans Frontieres reported 68 cases of rape in one of their clinics in April.” (Schuller .2011).
The rampart violent was to no concern to the police and what security the UMHH offer was to the medical patients.  The women activists organized lead efforts to stop the violent. The women leaders of the camp area offer up guidance and security measure to protect the women of Haiti. With songs and dances the tribal leaders looked towards harmony to create and tranquility with the victims and aggressor. This helped with the incident of violent against rape victims and change the atmosphere of the village. “You know in Haiti, folklore is a big deal. The drum is the sign of music and the sign of happiness that allows people to relax. When you beat it, ‘peem, peem, peem’ everybody dances. Even if you have problems, you dances.”(Mark Schuller, 2011).  In the Peom of the Day: by Bill Collins’s “The Dead”, I interpret, that in the path of life that we all take it might be one big event that happens…but we all have a path. “The dead are always looking down on us, they say, while we are putting on our shoes or making a sandwich, they are looking down through the glass bottom boats of heave as they row themselves slowly through eternity.” (Billy Collins’s, 2014).

Communicating Natural Disasters
In the age of social media, we tented to expected to have the latest broadcast of the weather events. The risk of knowing how the weather may be when traveling is some of the things that we look towards with the news feed, this is the precaution we need to know. I received Emergency Alerts though my phone and if there’s a Severe Dust Strom Warning it would say Avoid travel. Check local media. Also during emergencies, we get the Emergency Alerts System through local T.V. networking stations alerting us to Severe Wind and Dust alert here in Pahrump.
My Facebook social media is one good channel for events of epic proportions. When Irma hit Puerto Rico the events was catastrophic in its magnitude. The Mayor was proclaiming Statehood and immediate action. She stresses that the people of United States of America are being denied equal treatment to health and medical aid. FEMA covered areas of Puerto Rico that news channel did not considered. An agency spokesman for FEMA Mr. Booher, said “This aid is not stopping,” [interview]. “There was no, and is no, current plan to stop providing these commodities, as long as there continues to be an identified need for them.” (Patricia Mazzei 2018).

Twitter in the NBCNews: National Weather Services, show massive air flow through the Santa Ana’s in Los Angeles. “Water vapor satellite shows dry air mass (in orange) from Nevada combining with Santa Ana Winds in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties by Thurday.” (Maximiliano Valdes 2017) During the Severe Fire last year Twitter was keeping records of places that had Red Flag Warnings. These commodities aid in local and States disasters that goes on and tell of aid help station in your area. Even though electricity isn’t always available in serve area, warning does come from NOAA communication which I prefer, because of the stead stream of information.

Entering into the Arts of Theater Superhero’s

In discussing the rhetoric of what brings around the fans of superheroes and literally costume fanatics I looked into the performing arts in the theater and galleries. Creator of “Marvel Universe Live, by “Feld Entertainment Group producer of the show, and also Disney on Ice, Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Circus, and various monster truck events.” (The Guardian).

Marvel Universe Live! Looks to young boys & girls and comic book enthusiast. Traditionally it is important when telling a story about Marvel Comics adventures. The story on stage performance introduce the Cosmic Cube which is introduce in The Avengers Movie.  Which was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in the Golden Era of comics in 1966 it tells of a cosmic cube powerful energy.

The Marvel Universe Live thrilling story line began with Dr. Strange alerting the Avengers about the forces of evil trying to take over the universe. The story enters with Thor the god of thunder destroying the Comic Cube which can be the only way to save the universe. Thor with Mjolnir smashes the cube into four pieces. The god of Asgard skater the pieces to the four corners of the Earth.

Loki, the God of Mischief finds one piece of the Comic Cube, and with that piece plans to take over the Earth. Loki intent on cloning the mutant ability by sucking the life out of their body. This is where the stage performance takes off. Tony Stark is still the playboy billionaire taking on the mission to save the X-men from Loki. The stage sitting is located in New York City at the Avenger head quarter.

Tony is operating one of his drones as Pepper giving Tony orders to what to do. Incomes Peter Parker who admits being Spiderman which have just “skateboard into a Fifty feet window.” (Marvel Universe LIVE). Enter into the stage setting which has marvelous aerobatics and gymnastics.  To save the X-men from Loki who has his claws on Wolverine, Cyclops, and Storm in a machine about to drain the life out of them. Accompany with Iron man is Spiderman, where they take on Loki and his henchman. Examining the drama in the fight scene; there are flips and high wire feats performance by Spiderman which was thrilling. Feld Entertainment really out did themselves, “This all new show unites some of Marvel’s greatest Super Heroes including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Panther, Hulk, and Black Widow against some of the most threatening villains.” (Feld Entertainment.)

Nick Fury and Shield finds after beginning capture by Loki that the DNA from the X-Men feeds the clones in the machine. Ironman arrives on a high wire with Spiderman to take on the villains with light blasting rays and Spiderman gymnastics. Ironman manage to save wolverine but Loki ran off with Captured Storm and Cyclops. The public news media is panicking the people about Loki and his intent to take over the world. The Avengers assemble the mightiest super heroes Bruce Banner the Hulk, Black widow, Hawkeye, the Falcon, Ms. Marvel, Thor, Captain America, and Iron man, plus Wolverine. “The only way to stop Loki is to assemble the fragments of the original Cosmic Cube. ‘Thor’ disagree and the Avengers agree to do it together.” (Marvel Universe Live.). The heroes break up into groups Wolverine and the Hulk on motorcycles being the rebellious ones, and three other target teams.

A.I.M. the criminal organization has one of the Cube which they intend on making super-soldiers. Team one with Ms. Marvel take on A.I.M with their super heating ability. A.I.M has the heating body skeleton structure taking on Ms. Marvel in a high wire fight act. Villains are falling twenty feet to a safety mat, and Iron man using his laser blaster kicks and punch A.I.M.’s henchmen at the same time requesting Jarvis to disable AIM security system. A.I.M leader heats up his body skeleton suit and take on Ironman, in a real ball of fire walking on the stage.

There is a safety crew waiting in costume to extinguish the actor. In traditional Hawkeye from his is playing the protector and shadows Ms. Marvel and Ironman until they retrieve the cube piece. A.I.M. is design in the costume that is traditionally like the comic books, protective head gear and jump suits. Ironman still have the puns and quirk phrases when he is fighting A.I.M. The red lighting affect is the protected field that Jarvis eventually disarmed. The sound stage is full of drama music and drum beats.

Team Two target is the Green Goblin and his crime syndicate the Sinister Six the Rhino and Doc Octopus and The Lizard. The Green Goblin plans to make a worldwide crime syndicate to control and take over the entire world. The scene takes place at the Statute of Liberty.  Spiderman webs down while the Goblin is ranting with the cube and says, “I hate to be a fly on your wall!” (Marvel Universe Live). And takes the cube. This is a high wire rope act and the whole time of fighting it was in the air! Thor the God of thunder comes down the ramp and engage into combat with Rhino and the Lizard. One punch from the Rhino and the Thunder God goes down. On a floating platform the Green Goblin flees with the cube and Spiderman pulls the Goblin onto the Statue of Liberty. The Black Cat show’s up and introduce herself as the world greatest cat bulger…and runs off with the cube.

A customer said in a review, “Great Show. My 4.5 year old loved it! We had front row tickets on the right side of the stage. Tons of characters and action, Great for the kids. Adults will also enjoy it.” (Yelp)  Eventually Spidey web the Black Cat for trying to run off with the cube. “Calamity struck, and it was a real life (albeit small) calamity- not some tedious, confusing tripe involving a pretty girl dangling from a skyscraper and supervillains laying sieges to Manhattan. And not the more general and seriously depressing disaster that was the sum of the mismatched parts that had been assembled onstage.” (The New York Times). The Goblin drops Spidey from a twenty foot fall into an air mat. I must say watching this video is a great gift in my story because it is full of excitement. Daring stunts and great thrills scenes, “Now in its third generation of Feld leadership, Feld Entertainment continues its phenomenal success and acclaim. The family upholds the long-standing tradition of bringing spectacular live entertainment to audiences across the globe. As the recognized world leader in presenting celebrated shows that uplift and inspire, the unwavering Feld philosophy invests passion, innovation and meticulous attention to detail in astonishing productions that enthrall more than 30 million people in 75 countries on six continents, with as many as 5,000 shows each year.”(Feld Entertainment)

Back to the scene of Thor saying, “It’s hammer time!”(Marvel Universe Live). Waving Mjolnir around pounding the Rhino and the Lizard. I must say that the villains are having good fights and winning but this is a show for team support. Thor loss his fight to the two villains and the Goblin hovers off and pinned underneath the Goblin craft is Spiderman. The Goblin says “it looks like there some garbage under my shoe.”(Marvel Universe Live). Dangling above the arena the two fly off, and Thor takes revenge on the two “foul beast!” (Marvel Universe Live) and clobbers them. Spiderman flips the Goblin off his hover board and he falls 10 feet into an air mat. Spidey takes the cosmic cube and meets with Thor.

We cut to Wolverine and the Hulk climbing the rock formation wishing the Hulk don’t get stress. Back where Captain America is about to take on Red Skull and Hydra. The scene is stage in camouflage colors and motorcycles. Red Skull is saluting his troops and claiming he will have world domination. Captain America intervenes Hydra speech and the fight commonest again. Capt. chases the skull and its daring fining stunts on motorcycles, off ramps and edges.  With loud explosion and daring music and motorcycles throttling the excitement just keep on coming.

Red Skull tries to escape with the cube and Capt. Goes after him and Hydra shoots with loud explosions.  The Falcon flies over the arena and help’s Capt. Who is in a tough spot against Hydra, and the chase begins again. Black Widow and the henchwoman of the Skull are in a great fight. Black Widow says how about a “women bounding.” (Marvel Universe Live). With Black widow in trouble she tells Capt. to save yourself and get the cube. Of course Capt. choose team before mission, and saves Black Widow. Capt. says “Thanks but I’m not the one to leave a team mate behind.”(Marvel Universe Live). The Red Skull tries to escape in a fly craft but Capt. Flings his shield and brings it down.

The Hulk and Wolverine finally make it up the mountain and finds the machine holding Cyclops and Storm. Wolverine with his claws is just animated taking on Loki clones. One after another he strikes them and kicking taking them down. He manage to free Cyclops and Storm from the machine and then they engaged with Loki. The rest of the teams show up but last was Captain America.

They all have the cosmic cube pieces expect Captain America piece. But Loki is planning on taking those and summon the Sinister Six and Red Skull with Hydra to do battle. Thor is the first to take on Loki, but he is to strong with the power of the cube. Iron Man is taking on a cable wheeling guy with flames and all the Avenger and X-men are in battle. A.I.M is battling with Thor and Spider man.

Loki creates doubles of himself and make them offer to join him. Each one of the Marvels  decline Loki offer and battle on finally the Hulk shows up and Loki tries to take over his mind. Loki says the Hulk “power should be worship!”(Manchester). Hulk gets anger and battles the Marvel who could not stop him. Loki power was too much and they all fell powerless, except for Iron man. Who used his elector link and broke free then freed the rest of his team. Then the Avenger Assembled and the Hulk return and for course Loki tried to control him but the Hulk was to powerful and mash Loki. After the battle Thor took Loki back to an Asgard prison. Nick Fury and Shield took the remaining pieces of the cosmic cube for safe keeping. It ends with Spiderman turning down Ironman offer to join the Avengers. A great theatrical show it would inspire youths of all ages to become super-heroes and fight villains. I might add the caution of fighting crime and introduce the confession of a superhero and “Experience: I fell 30ft dressed as Spider-Man.” (Christopher Tierney), as a young man Christopher always was a Spiderman fan waring the “Spidey Pyjamas, my faced painted, being held up by a spider-man impersonator in the local shopping centre.” (Christopher Tierney). Getting a call to work in theater stage performance “Spider-Man: ‘Turn off the Dark,’” would of have been the thrill of his life time. Spider-man main act was saving Mary Jane for the Green Goblin in New York. In reconstructing his incident a wire was supposed to have tension on a bridge scene. When Chris reached for the wire it fell “below it was an open pit through which props and actors entered and exited the stage. The combined drop was over 30ft. Knowing I wasn’t going to be able to stop, I reached down, praying there would be something I could grab. There was nothing.”(Christopher Tierney).  This is Christopher having been as very frightening experience for the actor. He was so sure that everything just worked and so assure that the equipment is adequate to your survival. Christopher would be out of performance for 4 months with broken ribs and bruised lung and couple of other things, but he came back to the theater and performance art.

I am excited taking the course with superheroes and action comics. Las Vegas created the Marvel Avenger S.T.A.T.I.O.N.  Which is and marvelous gallery. It has life size replica of Iron man suits the Avenger training simulation were families can walk through experience of being on the actual set of the Avengers. “Emma Victoria Basc, We love Avengers, we are in Las Vegas on holidays from Australia. We enjoyed the ‘training’ and looking at the movie props and the interactive display but it [is].” (October 16, 2017) Facebook.com

“This is a great attraction for anyone who enjoys the marvel universe. The attraction features character bios, photos, videos and awesome props.” (Marvel Avenger S.T.A.T.I.O.N.)

What I have learn in this course is that whether you like the comics are movies, the action is there with the thrills. I’ve learned diversity in the new age of comics with the example of Ms. Marvel in “No Normal.” By Wilson Alphona. And I still see the playboy in Iron Man in Extremis, but they all tell the modern age of comics. Stan Lee comment that “we are a reflection of the world right outside that widow. We will never change is the way we tell are stories of heroism. Marvel has room of everyone regardless of their race, gender, religion, or the color of their skin. The only thing we don’t have room for is hatred and bigotry that man next to you is your brother and the lady next to you is your sister. He may have the strength of a spider. [You] are part of the marvel universe [forever excelsior].” (Marvel Entertainment)

We researched the Extremis in Iron man that dealt with transhumanist value that alter of the body in away using chemicals. “It promotes an interdisciplinary approach to understanding and evaluation the opportunities for enhancing the human condition and the human organism opened up by the advancement of technology.” (Nick Bostrom) In Marvel Universe Loki wanted to create the clones of X-men Mutants and make a change in the world and the universe. Creators of animated series have the desires to find super-human strength in the transhumanist perception. So like to be a creator that shock the world with its story line. Comic Code use to keep all the intent managed. “To make a positive contribution to contemporary life, the industry must seek new areas for developing sound, wholesome entertainment. The people responsible for writing, drawing, printing, publishing, and selling comic books have done a commendable job in the past, and have been striving toward this goal.”(Comic Code of 1954). Code of the Comics Magizine Association of America, Inc. Adopted October 26, 1954,

ABSTRACT
In this case study I will analysis the subject matter of Laura Finley duties at Frostburg Fit Center to see if there is a type of work that respectably example of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Is Laura Finley an exempted employee or non-exempted status of Frostburg Fit Center? Should Laura be pay overtime for her duties if assuming she is non-exempt? Can Laura be disciplined for working over 40-hours schedule without approval? What options does Tracy have if Laura keeps working over 40-hours a week? If I place myself in Michelle position what would I do with the information? Should Michelle do anything in her role? How can Frostburg Fit obtain an accurate account of overtime hours by non-exempt employees? This there inadequate in human resource at Frostburg Fit presenting this problem? Should Laura be considered as the full-time HR staff member? Should Laura be paid for the time she spent traveling to and from the conference? I will draft and overtime policy for Laura to be consideration by the practices of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Frostburg Fit, And Fair Labor Standards Act
While looking at office coordinator areas of Frostburg Fit center management has overlooked and has neglected the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) in their employee’s opportunities. “Laura Finley office coordinator at Frostburg Fit, joined the center in 2010 and transitioned from part time to full time in 2012, increasing her total numbers of hours each week from 20 to 35.” (Steve Riccio., Ed.). Laura Finley duties includes administrative work at Frostburg Fit Center and her job responsibility has exceeded more than 40 hours in a week. With Laura new HR training and understanding, that of the FLSA she is questioning payroll for justification. By confiding with Michelle Cartwright, Laura is looking for some clarification. The title that Laura has a non-exempted position, but her duties of administrative are exempted indeed. In order to be exempted employee…
“The employee must be compensated on a salary or fee basis (as defined in the regulations) at a rate not less than $455 per week; The employee’s primary duty must be the performance of office or non-manual work directly related to the management or general business operations of the employer or the employer’s customers and the employee’s primary duty includes the exercise of discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance.” (WHD).
Which brings us back to is Laura Finley being non-exempt status at Frostburg Fit Center. Of the fact that she is diligently working passed 35 hours a week doing office clerical work and going over those 40 hours. She is due by FLSA overtime pay to her of one hour and hour half times. The major reason is because Laura is not Salary and is paid by the hour which entitle her even if she works from home overtime rate. We have clarified that her duties of administrator is exempted but these reason does not prevent her one hour and one-half hour pay. Gail has the ability to change Laura status and make her a salary employee. If the FLSA information of the law of the United States Department of Labor, Laura Finley has a case she can bring forward. Laura is a hard worker and should be re-apt to promotion. Her duties have exceed normal business hours and analyzing the time for training in HR she should be reimburse for her expenses, because it reflex a learning exercise by the company time.  “In 2005, the recreation center received a state grant to begin construction of a facility next to the existing location that would house a hockey rink and turf field.” (Steve Riccio., Ed.). Which bring the Frostburg Fit Company under the State government making Laura hourly wage non-exempt. “The FLSA establishes minimum wage, overtime pay, recordkeeping, and youth employment standards affecting employees in the private sector and in Federal, State, and local government.”(WHD).
Any duty can be discipline for working overtime without approval, but with the extreme busyness of Tracy I’m sure it’s an oversite. They can reduce the work load by dividing the office coordination duties with Tracy, or hirer more help, and that would bring down labor cost. Laura can also be offer full time status in which she’ll be paid salary wages and increasing her hours making  her exempt. Michelle work as administrator for the Red Cross and she understand the logic of office duties. So bring this up to the board of directors at Frostburg Fit is not an embarrassment towards Gail. Michelle heard what is going on from Laura and as a confident to Gail should as Laura to meet with management. The less that could happen is she’ll get her overtime repaid. Maybe they will open up a position in management to the degree caring office coordinator. How can Frostburg Fit find out the overtime hours? If they have Laura document the work time and calculate the pay they should find what she’s been working. They already know Laura works 35 hours a week to find the time line, get the exact hours in which she worked from the beginning to the ending hours and days. All jobs are required lunch and fifteen minute breaks so this can be done. Gail started this business from a position as a gym teacher and raised a community productive company. So in getting work ethics correct she would have to dig deep in research and she has in training with Laura in Human Resources. Corrections can be made but it’s where she goes from here that the Department of Labor mandate hourly pay if over 40 hours be paid overtime and that is the responsibility of Gail’s duty as manager. I would consider Laura a qualifying candidate for full-time position because she has training plus college experience. Test her in the ability and make a judgement to promoting her in the role that she does as administration.  Traveling per demi at .35 cents a mile that is a business usually pay to management travels. Training is business and that is working hours she should be paid. In drafting an overtime policy for Laura if she is hourly. We can say if she is paid $7.25 hours at 35 hour week working 8 hours a day. If she goes over those 40 hour and works 9 hours a day for a week the she’ll have 45 hours.  This would owe Laura one hour and hour- half pay. So anytime past 40 hours is consider overtime and that is 10.875 hour time the extra hours. I estimate that Laura is owe 344.35 for just her weekly pay if she is assumed to have worked five hour overtime equaling about $54.00. Will Laura is in a good position to except any offer that Gail will see in the near future. With a company that is growing and helping the community the cost of office coordinators is acceptable and reasonable this makes a good business decision for a HR assistant.
