Since we are dividing Chapter 9 into two weeks, let's narrow the focus a
little bit for each week. Next week we will cover Massage and the section
on Bioenergetic Healing. This week, we will cover everything else!
Let's start with the Structural Bodywork section on Rolfing, Hellerwork,
Aston-Patterning and Myofascial Release. Was anyone familiar with any of
these techniques? Has anyone tried any of these? If so, share with
us your experience, if you'd like! If not, pick one of these techniques
and share what you think the pros and cons might be of this technique.
Structural Bodyworks, best know in the category are
Rolfing, Hellerwork, Aston-patterning, and Myofascial Release. “These
approaches seek to enhance body function by addressing chronic muscular tension
and imbalance and improving skeletal alignment.” (Larry TrivierI. Jr pg221).
Rolfing development of her own technique was created because of herself having
diabetes and arthritis. Teacher other her newly developed style was created in
the 50 and 60’s.
Rolfing taught to chiropractors and osteopath medicine in
the United States, Canada, and Europe before starting the Rolf Institute in
1972.
Rolfing say’s the weaken imbalance system results in
compromised body function. “The aim is to restore the alignment, so head, legs,
ankles and feet correspond. The body tends to compensate for areas of
imbalances or misalignment in one area through adaptive changes in other
areas.”(Larry TrivierI. Jr pg221).
By manipulating the fascia, using their fingers, thumbs,
and sometimes elbows. Each session is conducted with the client in his or her
underwear with no oil.I like the Rolfing technique and would use it in my daily
live for the propose to alignment of the spine and to have the blood circulations
come back.
Rolfing, more known as Structural Integration. Developed
by Ida Rolf, Ph.D. (1896-1979). “Doctorate of biochemistry and physiology,
combined with year of study of other bodywork techniques.” (Larry TrivierI. Jr
pg221).
