Naturopathy
"Given a need to understand
naturopathy, students will explain how the person as a whole is treated and
healed within this area of holistic health."
At first glance naturopathic medicine
seems a lot like osteopathic and functional medicine. What are the
similarities and what are the differences between the three?
Give the naturopathy holistic treatment, Patient
is diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease, with an emphasis on
treating the whole person. The treatment consists of “Therapies that recognize
the body’s innate healing mechanisms and take into account each patient’s
individuality.”
Patients with acute and chronic illness can be
effectively treated. The World Health Organization called this treatment the
“Nature Cure.” N.D. are trained in holistic and nontoxic medical, with the
strong emphasis on disease prevention and helping patients achieve optimal
wellness. Hippocrates teaches “healing philosophy has been followed by
indigenous healers in cultures worldwide for centuries, all of whom employed
foods, water, fasting, botanical remedies, and various bodywork methods to
bring about healing.” Naturopathy physicians seek to address their cause while
helping the body to restore itself to optimal health.
Treatment care is done by primary, nonemergency health
care providers.
Physicians and pharmacists are trained in naturopathic
methods. Naturopathic colleges have more formal training in clinical nutrition
than M.D.’s, osteopathic physicians, D.O.’s or registered dieticians.
